From Christchurch to Cape Town

After 28 hours of traveling from Christchurch to Sydney to Johannesburg we have finally made it to Cape Town.

Along the way we had a marvelous surprise. The plane crossed over the Antarctic ice shelf on a rare clear morning. Directly below us were icebergs in the slowly congealing autumn ice sheet, and off in the distance were the white cliffs of the Antarctic mainland.

It was an amazing and expected sight and it meant that we saw 3 continents in 1 day Australia, Antarctica, & Africa. Serendipitous!  Thank you Quantas flight attendants for the photo opps in the front of the plane!

Our first stop in Cape Town is the Abbey Manor, a 1905 Arts & Crafts mansion at the foot of the famous Table Mountain, an area even more beautiful than expected!
